That is a reasonable security story for internal training and corporate communications, which is much of SproutVideo's customer base. It is a weaker one for a paid course, because the AES key is fetched by the page and ordinary stream-ripping tools can read it.
Is AES-128 encryption the same as DRM?
No, and the difference is the whole reason DRM exists. With AES-128 HLS the browser downloads the key over HTTPS and decrypts in JavaScript, so any tool that can act as the browser can save the key and the segments and rebuild the file. With DRM the key is delivered to a secure decoder inside the device — Widevine, PlayReady or FairPlay — and never appears in the page.
